Sanggar Kirana, the Gamelan Group of Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP), won the Consolation Prize and brought home a total of RM 6,000 in the Pertandingan Gamelan Melayu Peringkat Kebangsaan 2011 which was organised by Lembaga Muzium Terengganu at Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin, Gong Badak, Terengganu from 28 to 31 October 2011. Out of the hundreds of Gamelan groups in Malaysia only 17 teams were selected to participate in this completion.
The main objective of this competition is to develop and enhance the appreciation towards Gamelan music in Malaysia. The competition was divided into 2 categories – Traditional and Contemporary. UTP Gamelan group which consists of 27 students was selected for both categories and performed a medley of 2 traditional songs - Gambuh Nyanyi and Lambang Sari- Turun Gambang for the Traditional category and Togok and Cinta Seorang Pendayung for the Contemporary category.
