Gatra Pertama, an Actualized Reverie

To some people, a dream is just a dream, never meant to be realized. Yet to some, a dream means a lot more than fantasy. It means hope, a new point of view, a new platform to stand onto, a new achievement, something that could be accomplished if enough hard work is put to it.

In Conjuction of 'Reflection' an event organised to appreciate UTP loyal partners, Gatra Pertama, The First Album of UTP Gamelan Group Sanggar Kirana, was officially launched on the 18th of Sepetember 2013 at IOI Marriot, Putrajaya by the Chairman of PETRONAS, Tan Sri Sidek Hassan acommpanied by Pn Juniwati Rahmat Hussin, Chairman of UTP Board of Directors and Datuk Ir (Dr) Abdul Rahim Hashim, Vice Chancellor of UTP.

The night was absolutely brilliant though it was a closed event attended by invited guests, the give back from the audiences has never let us down. A huge round of applause at the end of every song makes us want to give out more, the same feeling when we perform while enjoying the piece to the audiences. And of course a lot of hurdles we had to faced together to get to this level, to having Gatra Pertama.

6 months before, we had traveled to the south of Peninsular Malaysia to have our songs recorded, precisely at Hani Budi Studio Sdn Bhd, Batu Pahat. Johor. 10 days of recording seems too impossible for recording 11 songs altogether with two traditional malay Gamelan songs. But with determination each and every each of us, start at 8.00 a.m and ends at 4.a.m, we made the impossible possible.
It was unbelievable at first but we did it. A lot of memories we gather here at Batu Pahat and within every minutes we are closer to each other. Between the members of course and also between our Supervisors. Laughters, Mee Racun, tears, Nasi Bukhara, Wall of Shame, 'sesuatu yang tertinggal', etc.
The first day went very smoothly, not much of problems until the second day and so forth. Though it was very challenging having said, we managed. Being here at Batu Pahat for more than a week has  brought us together closer to each other.

In the Grand Ballroom, our dream became reality.

Gatra Pertama is indeed another achievement which is without scarification of time and concentration not only from us yet from our seniors to super seniors, our supervisor and manager Mr Ahmad Pg. Abdullah and Mr Nordin Abdollatip, our composers, Teuku Umar Ilany and Cikgu Zaidin, our coach, Amyra Farhana, Khairol Anuar and Fatin Nabylah, to UTP which provide us the platform to stand onto, and to all involve directly or indirectly, without you this dream would remain silently as a dream. Thanks to all.

This is not the end but the beginning.

Stepping Stone; To Another Level

Pertandingan Gamelan Melayu 2013, a national-level gamelan competition, held in order to uphold the art of Gamelan Melayu (Malay Gamelan) to a higher level. Performances upon performances brought before the audience on both two days were splendid, absolutely brilliant. To witness such a beautiful performance though misses out some of the performances due to the preparation for ours, not to mentioned to participate, was indeed a great opportunity we had and surely, the objective was achieved.

Performing on the first night of the competition, UTP Gamelan Group presented two songs, one of the Traditional Gamelan Melayu songs and another of contemporary songs (both are a must to each group) which were 'Sri Rama Balik' and 'Isang', composed and arranged by Teuku Umar Ilany. To be competing in the competition, we only hope to do the best and for the best, but to be announced as a second-runner up from thirteen groups, it was simply unbelievable.

Thank you to Mr Ahmad, Mr Nordin who has supported till the end.Thank you to Teuku Umar Ilany, Amyra Farhana, Khairol Anuar for being present eventhough car broke down in the middle of the journey to Kuala Terengganu. To Fatin Nabylah for choreographing the Isang, Balqis and Azim for the make-up and to all members of UTP Gamelan Group Sanggar Kirana for your dedication. Last but not least to all who has contributed directly or indirectly, thank you. This great achievement shall be another important stepping stone to a higher level. Gamsamhamnida.

A Phenomenal Affair; The Ensemble of Gamelan 2013

Ensemble of Gamelan 2013 indeed was a great success. Held at our very own Chancellor Complex, the crowds were unbelievable. It was simply spectacular.

For us, three months preparing for the event with three new songs to be mastered was a little bit heavy  as a full-time student. Plus, lots of events apart from EoG 2013, really filled up our daily, weekly schedule. Everything seems impossible at the first glance. But, with commitments, hard work towards our passion, The Ensemble of Gamelan 2013 has brought UTP Gamelan Group Sanggar Kirana to another level.

Never to be forgotten, the Ensemble of Gamelan 2013 Organizing Committees, thank you for your effort that made it run smoothly. And also to the other Gamelan Groups as well

Its Our Clan's Day

      Family Day, Yes!
Our relations' day this time were held at Pantai Teluk Senangin, Perak. It was planned to be a little bit relaxing, refreshing, different from past family day, rejuvenating and of course it was mainly meant to tighten bonds between members. All of us departed to the destination on the late afternoon, at 1600 hours to be precise, as planned. While being a norm to people, prayers were recited, hoping for a safe journey throughout from the God Almighty before departing.

Soon, an hour after an interminable journey, we had safely arrived to the designated meet place. Thanks to the couples who arrived there much more early than us, to arrange our barbecue set-up, dishes and stuff.  And thus, let's begin the activities.

Learn the instructions, briefings.

Shortly after performing Asar, some were task to find for firewood and that they did an incredible job. Firewood ranging from  a human size thighs to as small as a toothpick of diameter.  Following their arrival with three-cars-filled of firewood, we were then played a handball-like Frisbee game. Imagine that!
Stop after all were tired having to catch a flying Frisbee, we were all totally amazed by the beauty of God's creation, a sunset by the beach.

The majestic sunset

Following right after we had performing Maghrib together, we all headed for the main course barbecuing. Yup, not all participated in roasting the marinated chicken, some others started to light the woods for a campfire (it is banned actually) and some others were enjoying the fresh breeze from the land to the open sea. Guitars were plucked, melodies were played, songs were sang.
In circle we sat, circling the campfire, and games was played,
"mafias, doctors, spies and villagers,"
"one little frog, fall into the drain, oink,"
before and after dinner. not to mention, the food was delicious, mouth-watering. To guys watching over the chicken, thank you for the chicken!

Feeling refreshed ,rejuvenated and somehow connected plus sleepy perhaps, we end the family day on the same day, before 0000 hour. Thank you to the organizer.

UTP Co-Curriculum Appreciation Night

The first event of this semester has finally ended successfully. UTP Co-Curriculum Appreciation Night were attended by our very own Vice Chancellor Datuk Ir. (Dr.) Abdul Rahim Hashim accompanied by the Deputy Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs and Alumni, Tuan Haji Mohamed Noor Rosli Baharom with a special guest, Roslin Hashim who was once our National Badminton Player.

We were very delighted and honoured to be performing for this event. Therefore we brought to the audience the Serikandi and Sanggar Kirana songs.

With the fact that this is one of the successful events, one of our members had food poisoning. It is very unfortunate for us and for him. Lets pray and hope that this would not ever happen again in the future.

UTP Gamelan Group Sanggar Kirana New Members Selection - First Stage

Searching for new talented members this semester started quite early mainly because of the tight schedule. It is done with two session, on two different days for the first stage. While not many turned up for the first session, an out of mind number of possible who want to try their luck, showed themselves during the second session.

The first stage of the selection is all about technical, how you digest the beats and scores and let it out as rhythm and melody. The applicants were free to chose whichever of two different instruments they were capable to play with.
